Introduction to a future Physician Assistant

Helloo!

My name is Urvi (ur-vee) and I am currently a Junior here at the University of Oklahoma. My major is Health and Exercise Science-Physician Assistant studies. My Dream goal is to become a Physician Assistant and help people around me. I am generally a very happy person and I try to make people around me as happy too. Past two years here at OU were full of growth, as I was challenged in Science courses such as Anatomy and Physiology. As challenging as those course maybe, they were also full of opportunities to learn. As I took those courses, I was reassured that my decision to be in health science field was the right one, I was excited to learn about how our bodies worked and what it was composed off. I was not bored of it as I am while reading for history or other similar classes. This last two years at OU are going to be crucial for me, as I am planning to take GRE this year. I will have to work extra hard and pave myself a path that would lead me to become a Physician Assistant. The admission process is highly competitive so I will be trying to make myself the best applicant as possible for this last few years to achieve my dream.

As for a little background about me, I was born in India and moved to the United States with my family when I was eleven years old. I have grown up in a Hindu family, so I am pretty familiar with the Indian epics. I remember watching and reading the stories that plays an important role in the Hindu religion. I have had an influence of both the Indian and the American culture as I did most of my schooling here in Oklahoma. Some fun facts about me: I can speak up to four different languages, I like to dance or watch Netflix during my free time, I am a really outgoing person, who loves to socialize and meet new people, I like trying new things (anything basically whether it's food or an adventure) and I currently work at two different jobs.

Over the summer, I got to visit Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. The best part about the trip was going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with my friends at the Universal Studios. I love anything Harry Potter related so I was in awe when I actually went inside the Hogwarts and other Harry Potter themed places and rides. It was one of the best experiences I have had on a trip. I hope to visit the theme parks soon again.

  1. It is so great to have someone familiar with the epics already in class, Urvi! Plus, there are so many different versions of the epics and legends from different parts of India; you will have probably heard legends and stories different from the readings for class that you can share with us! Did you have Amar Chitra Katha comic books to read? We have the complete collection in Bizzell, which makes me really happy: maybe you can reconnect with some old favorites there. And thanks to the Patil sisters, there is so much potential to do Harry Potter mash-ups in this class... the Epified TV channel even did a fun video about that: see what you think! 1. I believe I have read some of the stories from Amar Chitra Katha, when I was little. I am not so strong on some of the details so I defiantly hope to connect with the stories again. The video was amazing, it was nice to see that one of my favorite movies connects with my religious background.

  2. Hi Urvi!

That is so cool that you want to be a Physician's Assistant! How much extra school does that require if any? And where would you want to do that. That is also very interesting that you are familiar with this course content. I am sure that you will have a different perspective on the readings we do in the course and I look forward to reading it! It will be very interesting to see the similarities and differences in our writings. Have a great semester!

    1. Hi Kayleigh,

  3. Hi Urvi!
We share something in common. I also want to work in the medical field too. I wasn't born in the United States either. I came here when I was 13 years old. I am jealous that you can speak four languages. I can speak 3 languages and 3 local dialects that do not count as official languages. It is so awesome that you're already familiar with Indian epics. I like reading them, but the names got me sometimes. Wish you luck on your future endeavors!

  4. Hey Urvi! I think it's so cool that you're an HES Pre-PA major because I know so many HES majors and Pre-PA majors! It seems like a fun path to take :)

I also think it's super interesting that you were born in India because you have an experience different than most people here! Unfortunately I have never been to Gujarat; my extended family lives in Mumbai so that's the only place we really visit. But it's cool to meet someone else with a similar background and who is also multilingual!

It's so awesome that you got to visit the HP world in Orlando! It's truly a magical place and one of my favorite places to visit in the whole world! (I legit wrote about it in my Favorite Place blog)

  5. Hi, Urvi! I think it's cool that you already have a lot of knowledge about Hinduism coming into this course! Also, I think it's amazing that you speak four languages. My boyfriend speaks three languages and a dialect of Chinese, and he's one of the smartest people I know. There's been research showing that kids who are able to speak more than one language are able to think and problem solve more effectively. Also, I absolutely love Harry Potter and am super jealous that you went to the Wizarding World. I'm a Hufflepuff, what about you?

  6. Hey Urvi! So nice to meet you! Just as I'm sure everyone else has said... It's so stinking awesome that you are from India! I can't wait to see more of your posts through out the semester about the epics we read. I have wanted to go to India for a really long time, but haven't gotten the chance yet.

Harry Potter world is such a magical place! I see in your picture that you got the butter beer, It's still one of the best drinks I've ever had! I'm glad you were able to go to the theme park, its every Potter fans dream!

good luck with the course, and taking your GRE this year!

  7. Hi Urvi!
It's so cool that you have some previous experience with some of the stories. I know when I've gone back to things for classes, I've always gained a deeper appreciation for them. And your trip sounds so cool! The Wizarding World looks amazing. I'd probably spend most of my money on food, or in the candy store. I'm such a sucker for good food, especially if it's themed off something I love: case in point, the Warren theater has themed drinks upstairs in the bar for new movies that come out and I love them. Nice to meet you!

  8. Hello Urvi!

It is refreshing to run into people that are genuinely happy people and want to make the people around the happy as well! I also find happinesss in making others happy. Its a wonderful feeling . I feel you pain and stress with human anatomy class. I took it last year and man talk about the dedication I to put towards it. I had many restless nights. I think it is cool that you can speak four languages! I only know two, I dream to be like you one day and speak four!

  9. Urvi,

Like I said in my comment on one of your stories, I LOVE the background and overall design on your blog. It is so neat to hear that you are from India and are already familiar with the content of this class. I would really like to continue reading your blog to see your perspective on the stories. Keep posting and always make sure you add your own personal input on each one; good luck with the GRE and with your semester!

  10. Hi Urvi!

What a great introduction to you! Looks like you have a great attitude, especially about taking classes like Anatomy and Physiology. I am not sure I would be as good spirited as you are! It is so cool that we actually have someone from India taking this class. I am interested to see your take on some of the epics that you are familiar with. I look forward to it and good luck with the GRE!

  11. Hi, Urvi!

Like everyone else has said, it is so cool to meet someone from India! I bet that has and will continue to give you a great perspective on the stories you write. I am also jealous that you know four languages. I barely know two, and it always seems like everyone I meet is already fluent in seven!
I have already read a couple of your stories and loved them. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with the rest of the semester!

  12. Hi Urvi!

First, good luck on your GRE, I hope it goes well. I think it's pretty awesome that you have already been exposed to these epics. I have really enjoyed them so far, and I think it would be neat to be exposed to them at an earlier age.
I also think it's awesome that you can speak so many languages and that you have lived in so many cultures.

Good luck on the rest of the semester, I hope it goes well!

  13. Hi Urvi!

It's really neat that you already have some background in Indian Epics before starting this class, I'm sure it will help you out! I hope your GRE goes well, because you're right, your next 2 years will be tough! Also, that picture of you in front of hogwarts is awesome, I want to go there!
I look forward to reading more from you.

    Thanks,

    Brady

  14. Hey Urvi! I think it's so cool to already have some connection to the stories we're reading! I'm having so much fun learning about them, so I bet you're having fun revisiting them!
I've only ever been to Disney World, so I would LOVE to get to go to Universal Studios and see the Harry Potter attractions. Maybe some day....
I think it's cool that you're so interested in science! I'm not a science-minded person, so that would be really difficult for me. I wish you luck in all of your endeavors and hope you have fun these last two years, fellow junior!

  15. Hey Urvi!
Good luck preparing for the GRE, that sounds like it might be a hell of a lot of stress.
It's great when you take classes in your degree field and just know that this is what you want to do with your life, and I'm sure that if you can learn four different languages that you can make your dreams come true.

  16. Hi Urvi!! It's such a pleasure to meet you! That's so awesome that you have found what you are mean to do in your career and good luck on your GRE! That's really great that you have been exposed to the Indian Epics and grew up with it, so this class should come with no surprises! I really want to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! So lucky that you got to go to Universal Studios, I have yet to tour that place as well. That's also pretty awesome that you know four languages, which ones are they? I hope to expand my language base one of these days, I'm at about one fluently (English) and two others (my native tongue, Laotian and basics of Korean). Languages are so interesting to learn. Good luck the rest of your semester in class and the years to come at OU and so forth!

  17. Hi Urvi,

It i great getting to know you. I can't believe I haven't came across your page yet, but it's better later than never! I think it is interesting that you want to be a Physician Assistant. I think that is really cool and I'm sure many people will benefit from your efforts. I am majoring in Finance, so it is always nice to hear a story from a different background. Good luck with the rest of the semester!
